We would like to introduce you to the newest artists to join our Canvas River team.
Katarina Kalmanova is a Slovakian-born artist who resides in Bratislava. She graduated from the Faculty of Education in Fine Arts, Univerzita Konštantína Filozofa in Nitra, Slovakia. We are drawn to her bright colours and her free, expressive style. Katarina uses nature as a source of inspiration, and finds that the changes in moods, scents, scenes, colours, and seasons parallel her inner life. In Katarina's own words: “In my paintings I try to capture everyday situations and feelings that touched my soul. Painting is the opportunity for me to look inside, to unleash what is behind the story… I paint directly on the canvas with no advance sketching, and I am letting the process and the adventure go. I like if the picture tells the viewers their own story or reflects their feelings, and they use their own imagination. Abstraction and mixed media is what allows me to be wide-open to all shapes and colours, and its unpredictable combinations.”
Lucie Jirku is a Czech artist who lives Prague. We feel that Lucie's work is an excellent compliment to Katarina's work. Lucie's abstracts are geometrical and structured, with confident, well-executed compositions and bright, uplifting colours. She is interested in the relationship between colours, the play of lights and darks, as they are interwoven amongst metallics in her formal layouts that structure curved shapes with straight edges. While her work is orderly and meticulous, it is also playful because of her dynamic colour palette.
